The RGA reminds growers to have stubble fires out by 4:00pm and to use best practice.
The Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia (RGA) advises growers to burn early.
The RGA’s Policy and Projects Manager Neil Bull recommends starting at 11.00am or as soon as the dew has evaporated, with fires out by 4.00pm. Fires still burning after 4.00pm are highly likely to see smoke held at ground level across regional communities.
“It is important to take all possible steps to minimise the adverse effects of smoke on neighbours and neighbouring townships. Monitoring weather conditions, wind strength, direction and forecast mixing height are critical to avoiding third party impacts” said Mr Bull.
“This information is readily available for farmers on the Stubble Burning App or the Met Eye section of the Bureau of Meteorology website” he added.
For more information about best practice and alternatives to burning growers should refer to the Responsible Stubble Management details on the RGA website.”
