Rice Scholarship Applications Closing Soon

11 January 2018

The Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia (RGA) reminds all rice growers that applications for the 2018 tertiary scholarships close soon.

In November 2017, the RGA announced new eligibility criteria for its tertiary scholarships making it more accessible for the children and grandchildren of rice growers.

The new eligibility criteria for the Greg Graham Memorial Scholarship for 2018 and beyond will be

  • Applicants must be the child or grandchild of a current financial member of RGA; and/or the child or grandchild of a rice grower – a rice grower is defined as someone who has delivered a minimum of 200 tonne of rice over the past 2 years.
  • Applicants must be in their second or successive year of studying an agricultural focused and/or industry related course at an Australian tertiary institution; and
  • Applicants need to demonstrate a commitment to the rice industry.

RGA President Jeremy Morton said the Greg Graham Memorial Scholarship and the Peter Connor Book Award provided valuable assistance with the cost of tertiary education.

“As part of our commitment to the industry’s long term future, each year the RGA awards two scholarships to the children or grandchildren of RGA members, this year we have opened it up to all rice growing families as we see the need to make this scholarship accessible to all rice growers,” Mr Morton said.

“We’d like to remind potential applicants that the closing date for applications is Friday 19th of January.”

The Greg Graham Memorial Scholarship is worth $10,000 and is co-sponsored by SunRice and Rice Research Australia Pty Ltd. The Peter Connor Book Award is awarded to the runner-up of the Greg Graham Memorial Scholarship winner and consists of $3,000 to assist with the cost of books and course materials.

“I would encourage all eligible students to apply for the scholarships before the closing date,” Mr Morton said.

Application forms are available on RGA’s website (search for “RGA awards and scholarships”), or by phoning the RGA on (02) 6953 0433.

Applications close Friday 19th of January 2018.
