SunRice update: Jan Cathcart Scholarship calling for applicants

SunRice is once again proud to be delivering the Jan Cathcart Memorial Scholarship to women involved in the Australian rice industry and its related agricultural networks. The 2021 Scholarship offers financial assistance of up to $30,000 for tertiary study, along with significant opportunities for work experience and employment placement in the rice sector.

Applications are now open for the scholarship, which is an initiative of the SunRice Group in honour of Jan Cathcart and her invaluable contribution to the rice industry during her 43-year career with the company. The Scholarship provides financial assistance valued at $10,000 a year for up to three years of tertiary study.

Since SunRice introduced the Jan Cathcart Scholarship in 2014, many of the recipients have taken on significant roles in the rice industry and agriculture in general. Jan’s legacy has supported the professional development and career paths of women who are now also contributing to this sector.

2020 scholarship winner, Alexandra Morona, is currently studying Animal Science at Wagga Wagga’s Charles Sturt University and said the Scholarship provided significant support in terms of finance and networks. The 2018 scholarship winner, Annabel Arnold, is undertaking a two-year graduate program with SunRice, and currently completing her first rotation with the Marketing division in Sydney.

The scholarship is open to female SunRice shareholders, growers, employees and their extended families. Women from across the rice industry’s networks are also encouraged to apply, or to nominate other eligible women who would benefit from the program.

The successful applicant will be chosen on her commitment to a career in agriculture; involvement in work experience and community service; leadership potential; and academic achievements.

To be eligible for the Jan Cathcart Scholarship, an applicant’s tertiary study will ideally be aligned to professional positions for which there is growing demand across regional Australia. These would include, but not be limited to, agricultural science, engineering and finance / business. Students may include those currently studying at university or new students attending their first year of tertiary studies in 2021.

Applications close on Monday 16 November 2020, with the winner to be announced in early 2021.

Please consider applying for the Scholarship if relevant or passing on information to women in your network who could benefit from this wonderful opportunity. The application form provides full details, and can be accessed HERE.
